UCSATP rolled out to Apac District Stakeholders
The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries on 11th December 2024 rolled out the Uganda Climate Smart Agriculture Transformation Project (UCSATP) to the leadership of Apac District.
Apac is among the 69 Districts to benefit from the project which will increase Agricultural productivity and improved resilience to climate change. The five year project has the five components of strengthening Climate-smart Agricultural Research and Systems, promotion of CSA technology adaptation, market development & linkages, contingency emergency response and project coordination and monitoring aiming at enhancing productivity and resilience, market linkages, institutional strengthening and crisis preparedness by the selected areas.
The project has several enterprises to be implemented across the Districts in the Country and Apac will do; animal production (Diary & beef), Crop production (coffee, cocoa, soybeans etc.), insects (Bees and Black soldier flies) and aquaculture value chain.
The selection of the enterprises for the 12 LLGs were done by the stakeholders through the focus group discussion and were distributed as follows;
· Crops (Apac, Chegere, Teboke, Ibuje Sub Counties, Ibuje & Akokoro Town Councils, Atik, Akere, Arocha and Agulu Divisions)
· Livestock (Akokoro, Apoi, Ibuje, Chegere, and Apac Sub Counties)
· Fisheries (Apoi Sub County and Akokoro Town Council)
· Beneficial Insects (Bees-Apoi, Akokoro, Apac, Chegere Sub Counties and Akere Division, Black Soldier Flies- Akere & Atik Division, Akokoro Town Council)
In her closing remarks, Joan Apio- Deputy RDC appreciated the Ministry for choosing Apac among the Districts to benefit from this project and reported that the feedback from the community shows much interest.
“During the radio talk show, the feedback shows how happy the communities are for the project and they are eager to start,” said Apio.
She urged Local Council III leaders to be ambassadors for the project because it is for everybody. Brief them about the guideline because it shows that it will transform lives.
Apio discouraged negative talks about the District from hill hearted individuals who are ever bent on destroying the image of the District. The project has come to reduce on laziness and poverty among our people and no one should spoil it.
