Apac District Forestry Sector Distributes Tree Seedlings to Leaders and Communities in Effort to Boost Environmental Conservation

Apac, Uganda—[14/5/2025]— In a bid to promote environmental sustainability and combat climate change, the Apac District Forestry Sector has launched a tree seedling distribution initiative targeting local leaders and communities. The exercise aims to enhance forest cover, restore degraded landscapes, and encourage community participation in conservation efforts.

Key Highlights of the Initiative:

· Distribution of Seedlings: Over 13,500 diverse tree species, including both indigenous and fast-growing varieties, have been distributed to sub-county leaders, parish officials, and community members.

· Community Engagement: The initiative emphasizes the role of local leaders in mobilizing their communities to plant and nurture trees, ensuring long-term environmental benefits.

· Climate Resilience: The program aligns with national and global efforts to mitigate climate change by increasing carbon sequestration and promoting sustainable land use.

Hon. Tonny Jasper Odongo, District Vice Chairperson of Apac District & Secretary for Production and Marketing, commended the Forestry Sector for the initiative, stating, "This is a critical step toward securing a greener future for Apac. We urge all recipients to plant these seedlings and protect them for future generations."

Ms. Dorcus Angole, District Forestry Officer, highlighted the importance of collective action: "Trees are vital for clean air, water conservation, and soil protection. By working together, we can restore Apac’s ecosystems and improve livelihoods."

The Apac District Forestry Sector calls upon all stakeholders, including schools, religious institutions, and farmers, to actively participate in tree planting and maintenance. Angole said monitoring teams will be moving to track progress and ensure the survival of distributed seedlings.

The Apac District Forestry Sector is committed to sustainable forest management, biodiversity conservation, and community empowerment through environmental initiatives.
