Ministry of Local Government Conducts LEDIC Coaching, Mentoring and Backstopping at Apac District

Apac, Uganda—June 18th, 2025 The Ministry of Local Government has successfully conducted a comprehensive coaching, mentoring, and backstopping session for the Local Economic Development Initiative Committee (LEDIC) at Apac District. The session, held as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen local governance and economic transformation, brought together key district technical staff, political leaders, development partners, and representatives from the private sector.

The engagement aimed at enhancing the capacity of LEDIC members to effectively coordinate and implement Local Economic Development (LED) initiatives in line with the national development agenda. Through interactive training, the participants were guided on their roles in stimulating inclusive economic growth, facilitating private sector participation, and promoting community-led enterprise development.

Speaking at the event, Ruth Kashaga, Senior Development Officer from the Ministry of Local Government, emphasized the government’s commitment to empowering local governments as engines of economic progress.

“Local Economic Development is not just a strategy, it is a pathway to unlocking the full potential of our communities. By building strong, skilled, and visionary LEDICs, we lay a foundation for sustainable development and job creation,” she noted.

The coaching and backstopping activities also covered key areas such as LED planning and budgeting, stakeholder coordination, investment profiling, and performance monitoring. Participants shared experiences and challenges and explored innovative approaches to resource mobilization and market linkages within Apac District and the broader region.

Apac District leadership, represented by the Principal Assistant Chief Administrative Officer Janet Odongo Akech and LEDIC, welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the knowledge and tools acquired during the session.

“This exercise has come at the right time. We are now better positioned to engage investors, empower our communities, and support local enterprises,” she said.

The Ministry of Local Government pledged continued technical support through regular follow-ups and collaboration to ensure the LED framework is effectively mainstreamed into local government operations.
