Apac District Hands Over a 5 Stance Drainable pit Latrine to the residents of Awila

On Friday July 19, 2024, the District team, led by the Assistant Resident District Commissioner-Apac Janol Okot, handed over the new public toilet structure at Atek Central, Awila. The five stance drainable pit latrine constructed by the District Water Sector using the District Water Supply & Sanitation Conditional Grant (DWSSCG) was done by Hanzon Engineering Services & Supplies Ltd at a cost of 28.5m UGX.

ARDC Okot praised the Government of Apac District Local Government for putting the structure at Awila and expressed his appreciation to the political leaders for always putting aside politics during the implementation of Government programmes.

Okot also thanked the family members who sacrifice the land for putting the structure. He urged the people of Awila to be more community-minded, sharing resources for the benefit of all Apac residents. He called on the community to integrate their interests harmoniously into the district's development agenda.

He urged the family who gave the land to put the structure should avail the documentations for the land to the authorities to avoid some doubts which might arise from the community members around.

The Senior Assistant Secretary-Akokoro Sub County who represented the Chief Administrative Officer Abongo Innocent expressed much gratitude to the District for constructing the structure at Atek Central which is the fast growing urban area at the District. He encouraged the community of Awila to take proper care of the structure because it will help curbing some disease outbreaks.

Tonny Jasper Odongo, Leader of Government Business rep District Chairperson, said this was District Chairperson’s pledge to the Community of Awila to put a toilet structure to ease the development of the area. He conveyed apologies from the District Chairperson Ikomba Asanti Odongo for his absence, attributing it to Official engagement that has taken him to Kampala.

Odongo highlighted the need for toilet at Awila that Hotels need latrine to function and where latrine is not there, no hotel should function.

The team accompanying ARDC Okot included District Speaker- Obong Peter Acuda, District Water Officer/Engineer-Okwir Patrick, and Communication Officer- Bongonyinge Felix.

DWO Patrick Okwir encouraged residence of Awila to utilize the modernized structures to maximize the potential of their area development, emphasizing the importance of latrine to the center. He appreciated the community for being patient enough until the structure is commissioned.

“It is upon the District Water Office to ensure there is good sanitation at the developing Centers,” Okwir said.

The Sub County leaders led by Sub County Chairperson- Felix Odongo and residence appreciated the District leadership for considering Awila among the many growing centers to the structure and pledged to take proper care of the structure.
