Social Assistance Grant for Empowerment (SAGE) programme is an important opportunity whereby we see the beneficiaries living an optimistic life in Apac District. This was being highlighted by the District Chairperson Hon. Okae Bob in his state of affair address on Thursday 06/07/2017.
Apac District is one of the 15 districts in Uganda selected to pilot the implementation of SAGE programme. The district started implementing SAGE in October 2011.
Two targeting mechanisms were piloted by the Expanding Social Protection Programme. For instance, the Senior Citizens Grants (SCG) in 5 Sub-counties of Akokoro, Abongomola and Inomo, Aduku Town Council and Apac Town Council and the Vulnerable Families Grant (VFG) in 6 Sub Counties of Apac, Ibuje and Chegere, Chawente, Nambieso and Aduku.
During the pilot phase of SAGE, a total of 9,089 beneficiaries benefited from SAGE in the district disaggregated into 5,198 beneficiaries under the SCG component and 3,891 under the VFG component. The total enrolment for SAGE in the district now stands at 10,628 beneficiaries disaggregated into 6,216 females and 4,412 males.
Every SAGE beneficiary receives Shs 25,000 only per month payable after every two months and the initiative has raised beneficiaries from grass to grace. Through the money they get some have increased their ability to meet basic needs, send their children and grandchildren while others have been able to construct semi-permanent houses for themselves.
