Local Council Chairpersons (LC1s and LC2s) in Apac District have received Shs 120,000 each as their allowances on Tuesday 04/07/2017 for the financial year 2016/2017 totaling to Shs 84 million shillings.
While launching the payments at Ibuje Sub County headquarters, the Chief Administrative Officer Mr. Alia Seraphine noted that a total of 84 million shillings has been paid to Chairpersons of LC1 and LC2s as a government policy to reward local leaders for their efforts in ensuring peace and security in their respective places of vicinity.
Alia lauded the government of Uganda’s move to start paying salaries and allowances to local council leaders, including those at village and parish level with the effect from July 2010. He noted that LCs play a big role in settling community disputes and ensure peace and security in their respective jurisdiction.
CAO urged the Local Council Chairpersons to receive their payments and use it appropriately in a way that benefits them. He cautioned them not to drink off their money but rather to use it for agricultural input. He adds, the money comes quarterly hence the need for patience as they wait for payments.
Besides the launch of Local Councilor’s payments at Ibuje Sub County headquarters being done, the payments were also done in the other eight Sub Counties within the Apac District Local Government.
